STEVEN FANAROFF

Steven Fanaroff, the managing director of Montgomery County, Md.-based Bedrock Asset Management, is a long-time financial executive whose experience crosses a range of industries, including the banking, real estate and retail sectors in the Washington market.

In his managing director role, Fanaroff is responsible for identifying properties for potential acquisition, maintaining all banking relationships, negotiating leases, and selecting, as well as approving, property managers.

While he has spent more than 30 years as a retail executive, Fanaroff’s main focus today is in real estate – an industry in which he has worked for 20-plus years.

Since 1999, he has served as a board director at Bethesda, Md.-based EagleBank, a fast-growing community bank with more than $8 billion in total assets. Fanaroff was on the initial start-up committee for EagleBank, which today is one of the most profitable banks in the D.C.-area market.

In the decade preceding his time at EagleBank, Fanaroff served as a board member of Bethesda-based F&M Bank-Allegiance, a community bank that catered to clients in the Maryland counties of Montgomery and Prince George’s.

For roughly 14 years, Fanaroff has been a member of the board at the Maryland Food Center Authority in Jessup, Md., where he currently serves as Chairman of the Board. He also is a lifetime board member at the B’nai Israel Congregation in Rockville, Md.

GARY BORTNICK

Gary Bortnick, a director of Montgomery County, Md.-based Bedrock Asset Management, is a seasoned executive with 35 years of experience in the real estate and retail sectors.

Since 1978, he has negotiated more than 300,000 square feet of anchor space with landlords, and also the build-out and maintenance of these sites.

In 2007, Bortnick negotiated a lease resolution due to eminent domain proceedings with the city of Rockville, Md. He has a strong understanding of mediation procedures as well as an uncanny ability to negotiate and then find mutually satisfactory agreements to complex situations involving multiple parties.

Bortnick is also quite familiar with licensing processes in Fairfax County, Va., Montgomery County, and Washington, D.C. – and in working with political leaders at all levels of government
around the Washington region.

A life-long Montgomery County resident, he is the owner of multiple residential condominium units and also serves as their property manager.

Bortnick is a past member of the Consumer Affairs Advisory Committee for Montgomery County, a 2001 graduate of Leadership Montgomery, and a former co-president of the University of Maryland Parents Association.

FORMER DIRECTORS

MARK POLSKY

Mark Polsky, a director of Montgomery County, Md.-based Bedrock Asset Management, has invested in real estate for more than 35 years, while also working in all phases of the retail business for 45 years.

Throughout his career, he has overseen the operation of multiple residential housing units, and also audited large-scale computer systems for the U.S. Government Accountability Office, where Polsky had several findings published.

A native of the Washington, D.C., area, he has extensively participated in philanthropic activities over the years. For about 10 years, Polsky worked with the Leukemia Society of America, now known as The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Polsky coordinated charity golf tournaments for seven years to benefit both the Alexandra, Va.-based American Diabetes Association and Jerry’s Kids.

Other past civic positions have included serving for 15 years on the board of the District of Columbia-based Prevention of Blindness Society of Metropolitan Washington and being a board member for 12 years at the Hebrew Home of Greater Washington in Rockville, Md.

He served for eight years on the board of the B’nai Israel Congregation in Rockville, where Polsky was on the executive committee and a vice president for two years, and also chaired the budget committee.

He sadly passed away on December 20, 2021. His legacy remains a part of the Bedrock Asset Management foundation.

STANFORD STEPPA

Born in Washington, D.C., Stanford Steppa, a director of Montgomery County, Md.-based Bedrock Asset Management, has 60-plus years of retail experience, as well as 35 years of real estate ownership.

Until the age of 17, he lived in Southeast Washington, when Steppa was drafted into service during the Korean War, serving his tenure in the U.S. Armed Forces stateside.

Steppa began collecting René Lalique glass decades ago, eventually possessing one of the largest private collections.

He sadly passed away on September 14, 2021. His legacy remains a part of the Bedrock Asset Management foundation.
